Hack #15: How can I create an internal project inside Dynamics 365 Project Operations?

Applies To: Lite deployment – deal to proforma invoicing

Dynamics 365 Project Operations provides features and tools that support both internal and external project use, including project planning and scheduling, resource allocation, time and expense tracking, and project accounting and invoicing.

Internal projects do not require external billing or invoicing. You can create internal projects to manage internal initiatives, such as software development projects, marketing campaigns, and product launches.

While you do not need a project contract for internal projects, you can still use other project-related features such as tasks, resources, time tracking, and expenses. By using these features, you can ensure that the project is completed on time and within budget.

Internal projects are leaner (as far as setting up goes), you only need to create a project and assign tasks and execute it! As long as the Contracting Unit/Organizational Unit contains a COST PRICE LIST you will be able to track all time/expenses against the project.

Everything else is the same as for as the project goes. PMs only need to approve time and expenses and later close the project.

Note: Non-billable time entries do not count as ‘busy’ time in the OOTB Resource Utilization report! If you build your own report you can control this. Link for further details: here

Thank you and see you next time!
